Are We All on the Same Page? Women and the Old Testament
This course will explore various biblical texts of women in the Old Testament to address some of the most challenging issues and questions that come up as we read the Bible. Dr. Dharamraj will engage the role of women in the scheme of creation, our world, and the mission of God. This course will also tackle some of the most difficult texts in Scripture that involve women throughout the Old Testament, such as patriarchy, sexual assault, childlessness and widowhood. Finally, this course will help us to contextualize these difficult passages of Scripture to make it relevant to our modern day.
Dr. Havilah Dharamraj is a Langham Scholar, serves as Head of the Department of Biblical Studies and teaches Old Testament at a seminary in South Asia. Her academic degrees include an MS in biochemistry, an MA in Christianity, and a PhD from the University of Durham, UK. Her recent publications include A Prophet Like Elijah?: A Narrative-Theological Reading of the Elijah Cycle, South Asia Bible Commentary (editor and contributor), Altogether Lovely: A Thematic Intertextual Reading of the Song of Songs, and Asia Bible Commentary Series. Her ongoing writing projects include the South Asia Study Bible (editor and contributor) and contribution to Five Views on Jesus in the Old Testament. Besides writing for both academia and the Indian church, she enjoys her dogs and garden. Havilah is married to Pandu Dharamraj, and they have two married children and a grandson.
