This course is an introduction to hermeneutics. Hermeneutics is the task of interpreting or explaining the meaning of Scripture and it gives us a framework for comprehension in written, oral or visual communication. Why does this matter? Because the Bible was written in different languages, cultures, and historical contexts, we must bridge the gap between the ancient world, which is the world behind the text, and our own world, which is the world in front of the text. This course will provide a roadmap for how to do hermeneutics well keeping in mind the culture of the text and how it applies to our respective cultures today.
